Our Story

Founded to make flying sustainable

Crossroads Aviators, Inc. was founded in Indiana with a simple idea: general aviation is more fun, more affordable, and more sustainable when it's shared. Owning an airplane solo means shouldering every dollar of insurance, hangar rent, maintenance, and avionics upgrades by yourself — and an airplane that mostly sits idle in a hangar.

We wanted something different: a small, tight-knit club based at Indy South Greenwood Airport (KHFY) where a handful of dedicated members share one well-equipped, well-maintained aircraft, split the costs fairly, and actually fly together.

Our Mission

Community first, aircraft second

We believe the best flying clubs are held together by the people, not just the paperwork. Our members look out for the airplane and for each other — showing up for maintenance days, sharing knowledge, and helping newer members build confidence in the airplane.

Indy South Greenwood Airport (KHFY) doesn't currently have a flying club — we're building the first one, and we take that seriously. We're not just adding an airplane to the field — we're bringing a community to it, one we hope grows into a lasting part of what makes KHFY a great place to fly.

As we grow, our plan is to add aircraft to the fleet so availability stays high and the club remains accessible to new members — without losing the small-club feel that makes Crossroads Aviators worth joining.

Our Name

What "Crossroads Aviators" means to us

Crossroads

Indiana has long called itself the "Crossroads of America" — the highways of the country converge here, and Indianapolis sits near the center of it all. We're proud of our Indiana roots and proud to call Indy South Greenwood Airport (KHFY) home. The name is a nod to where we're from, and to the idea of a club as a meeting point: a place where pilots with different backgrounds and experience levels come together around one airplane.

Aviators

We chose "Aviators" over "Pilots" on purpose. Anyone can learn stick-and-rudder skills — being an aviator is broader than that. It means good aeronautical decision-making, disciplined risk management, and a habit of flying safely and conservatively, every time, not just when it's convenient. That's the standard we hold ourselves to as a club, and the mindset we look for in every member.

What We Value

What makes this club worth joining

Shared Costs, Real Savings

Crossroads Aviators is a non-equity flying club — no aircraft share to buy or sell. Fixed costs like insurance, hangar, annual inspections, and avionics upgrades are split across the membership, making flying more economical and a great option for building time.

A Real Community

Fly-outs, hangar hangouts, safety briefings, and the kind of camaraderie that keeps you coming back to the airport even on days you're not flying.

Peer Learning

Several of our members are Certificated Flight Instructors who fly in the club alongside everyone else. Networking with experienced members — CFIs included — is a great way to keep sharpening your skills.

A note on flight training: Crossroads Aviators is a social flying club and does not operate as, or advertise itself as, a flight school. We do not offer or advertise flight instruction as a club service. Some of our members are independently certificated flight instructors, and members may choose to arrange instruction with them individually — that arrangement is separate from, and outside the scope of, club operations.
